The California style holster was designed around 1850 by craftsmen in the west who saw that the belt holsters of the east were not sufficient enough for their clientele's needs. These holsters were normally carried in a neutral cant on the strong side or with a reverse cant for a cross draw.
These holsters are finished using the traditional oil and bee's wax finsh
The tooling of the holster in the second picture is bassed off of an original holster from 1855-1865 whos maker is unknown
